The Magic of Sisters

I was sitting in the living room playing a game with Isaiah when I suddenly realized the girls were not in the room with us.  They were strangely quiet so I went looking for them.  They were in their room, sitting quietly, stacking blocks.  I smiled, glad to see them getting along so well.

I went back to the living room and continued playing with Isaiah.  Ten minutes or so passed and I got up to check on the girls again.  I expected to find them in their room, but they weren't there.  Isaiah's room was empty.  My room was vacant, and then I heard a giggle coming from my bathroom.

For Christmas I received a make-up set from my sister.  It was a flip pack, one side for day and one for night.  The day makeup was in my purse.  The night makeup was smeared all over their faces, their clothes, the floor, and the cabinets.  I have never seen so much pink and sparkly black.

I stared for a minute, amazed at the mess they made in just a few minutes.  Then I laughed.  How could you not?  They were so happy, covered in makeup, laughing like they just shared a secret.

After I snapped a few shots of the mess I got right to work cleaning it up.  Step one, strip the girls and get stain remover on their clothes (by the way, Tide Stain Remover works on make-up).

Step 2, clean off their makeup covered skin.  At which point my diaper wearing babies started jumping on the bed while I finished cleaning the bathroom.  The mess wasn't hard to clean up, since I just scrubbed the floors that morning.  I sprayed and wiped and everything looked as good as new.  It took less time to recover from the mess than it took them to make it.

As they jumped on the bed, falling over laughing, I couldn't help but smile.  Man, they had a fun and girly morning.  Honestly, I was a little jealous.  I had have two sisters and we have gotten into plenty of trouble together, but not this young.  Not like this.  We couldn't plot a crazy mess like this before we could even talk.

I spent so much time worrying that they wouldn't be best friends or share a bond I forgot that part of the magic of a sister is you don't have to be best friends.  You can spend 364 days a year avoiding each other, but the one time you put aside your differences and work together to do something awesome or awful, it's magic.  The one time you share something, the one time you communicate without speaking, it's totally worth it.

I laughed out loud at the mess they made, and I actually enjoyed cleaning this one up.  I love seeing them like this, plotting together, sharing and having the kind of fun only sisters can have.  It made my day.

  1. Sisters - so jealous! :)

My duo did the mess thing with butt cream in their room once - and I did the same. Took pictures. I ended up with a perfect footprint....

  3. I think the sound of your daughters giggling together is one of the sweetest sounds ever. I love it. It's one of God's little blessings
